Transformation Trends in 2022

Principal Consultant, Finance Transformation
Principal Consultant, Finance Transformation
I have been in the recruitment industry for 8 years spending much of this time helping organisations hire mid- senior leadership and board level Finance positions. I now work with Transformation leaders to define, design and deliver Transformation programmes delivering statements of work mapped to outcomes. Typical mandates include Transformation Director, Program Director, Change Manager and PMO. These mandates are within a range of organisations from PE/VC backed scale-up organisations to the FTSE250.

As we come to the end of 2022, we wanted to take the time to reflect on the transformation trends we saw this year and what this could mean for transformation in 2023!

Our transformation arm of the business has been incredibly busy across the following five areas:

#1 Data-driven business management

Many organisations over the past year in particular have looked to adopt a data-driven approach, whether this is through the KPIs a business uses internally, or data which will enable them to service their clients or customers more efficiently.

This has called for not just high-quality technology to enable this, but also for the best talent in Data. An article by Analytics Insights claimed that Data Scientists will be the most in-demand profession for the next 5 years!

“Because of the increased demand for data scientists, educational institutions are beginning to include it in their curricula. Data literacy will improve in the future, and a data scientist will have a specific qualification similar to that of a doctor or lawyer. That is, they will become part of a whole new discipline. Many institutions have recently introduced data science degrees to fill the skills shortfall in the industry.”

Many organisations are looking for ways to encourage data-centric work culture -, and one of the best ways to do this is by implementing systems and hiring individuals to drive this!

#2 Cybersecurity

Trust is paramount for every organisation, and excellent cybersecurity talent has been in demand for several years. With data comes responsibility – and protecting this from breaches and attacks is crucial. Fortune produced an article in June 2022 stating that the number of unfilled cybersecurity jobs worldwide grew 350% between 2013 and 2021, from 1 million to 3.5 million!

Although security breaches are inevitable, organisations are still heavily investing in processes, training, and talent across all areas of cyber to stay ahead of the curve and protect their data.

#3 CRM Adoption

The customer experience is the bread and butter for a number of brands – and the expectations from consumers are higher now than ever before. People want a consistent experience and to feel part of something – and failure to meet this need can cause customers to stop buying from a brand or even boycott it.

CRM tools give companies and brands the power to create a seamless user experience, from email marketing to automation tools to add personalised touches. Many organisations are utilising the power of customer data platforms (CDP) and CRM tools. CRMs such as Salesforce, HubSpot and Oracle also work to provide invaluable customer data, which can enable organisations to stay close to their prospects.

#4 Cloud Solutions

The Cloud allows organisations to operate seamlessly – whether internally using remote or hybrid workers or for clients and customers. It ultimately reduces the need for on-site maintenance and also allows for a more fluid way of operating.

This technology has enabled organisations to use the cloud for their data, communication, and keeping essential materials in a centralised place. This reduces the risk of cyberattacks and enables organisations to be more flexible with recruitment. Gone are the days of needing to be in the office to access work-related content!

#5 Creating New Digital Business Models

Many organisations have changed how they exchange their products and services for money. Many customers want a seamless digital experience, from the UX and UI when they use their tablet or mobile to the technologies and processes that respond to their needs.

Creating seamless digital business models requires great tech at its core and high-quality talent: from the technical talent building the models through to how this can be rolled out and implemented across a transformation.

How will these trends evolve in 2023?

2022 has flown – and these trends are unsurprisingly here to stay. Key areas such as Cybersecurity and Data will always be in demand. It’ll be interesting to see how these demands grow and shift as more organisations see and adopt the value.

We are helping multiple organisations find incredible talent to aid them in their next transformation. To understand how we can help – reach out to one of our specialist consultants.
